Health
is a subject many take for granted. Pacific Islanders,
as well as many other cultures, have historically viewed
health as a birthright. Even in the United States, our
health is perceived as part of our inheritance, a legacy
left to us by our parents and past generations.
Unfortunately,
recent generations have ignored what their ancestors
taught and knew about the health and longevity of their
various societies.
Your
heritage deserves reflection to examine the wisdom and
ways of the ancients. I hope to introduce old ideology
in a new reflection that allows readers to speculate
on their potential.
The
belief is that once the mind is expanded to conceive
and believe new ideas, reality follows in logical progression.
How
many generations has it been since we stopped listening
to the wisdom of our ancestors? We are grossly overfed
and sadly undernourished. Obesity runs rampant in our
families as an industrialized world grows fat on our
economic spending.
Degenerative
illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease,
cancer, systemic lupus, digestive disorders, etc...,
continue to increase while detracting from the quality
of their victims lives. We have not truly extended the
life span of humanity, but we have become dependent
on technology and pharmaceuticals to maintain an existence
that is often difficult to compare with living. The
questions begs answering, are we missing the big picture?
In
an age where industrialized thought promotes technological
and pharmaceutical progress as superceding that of our
ancestors, ask yourself who stands to profit and what
can I learn from my heritage regarding my health and
well-being? ~MP
