site mapI
decided to write this article because I feel strongly
that
there are far too many children in the world who are
reaching out to their parents for love and support, and |
|
This is very important because I want to create a situation where I am his strongest influence, even though his peers could also influence him. My hope is to reduce the risk of him making decisions that could haunt him forever. Growing up in Hawaii, I was always taught to respect my elders, and that is something that I see young people forget, or more than likely are never taught. There is one statement I hold true: “A child is a reflection of his parents.” We as parents have to be willing to take responsibly for our children. Ronny loves football and track, and shows great potential for success even at his young age. I have always told him that once you commit to something you have to finish it, even if you don’t like it. He is presently running track for West Valley Eagle track club of Woodland Hills, California, and is ranked No. 1 in the 100 meters for his age division. He qualified for the Junior Olympics two years in a row, but was unable to compete because he has spent the past two summers in Hawaii with his mom. |

| This
year, however, if he
qualifies again he will compete since he
now lives with me. His dream is to attend the
University of Southern California, graduate,
then pursue a career in the NFL. I support
his dreams, and always remind him that unless
he keeps his grades up I will not allow him to
participate in any extra-curricular activities, because I want him to have something to fall back on if he doesn’t make the pros, or if he gets injured and cannot compete anymore. We strive to live a clean, healthy lifestyle and keep our diet as healthy as possible. Since we all grew up in the Islands, we still love to eat! We just practice moderation and use dietary good sense. I believe that if we teach our children about proper nutrition while they’re young, it will improve their quality of life as they get older and will help prevent illnesses related to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and a host of other preventable diseases. My being a personal trainer makes it a little easier, but you don’t have to be a trainer to become educated in what to eat and what not to eat. |

Most importantly
I feel that we have to support and motivate
our children, and allow them the freedom to dream and know that the sky is the limit. I remember the first bodybuilding show I ever attended in Honolulu, and Shawn Ray guest posed. I said out loud to myself, “Wow, I want to look like that!” A gentleman seated next to me gave me a sarcastic look and said, “In your dreams! You don’t have what it takes!” Five years later I won the Overall Title at the Tournament of Champions! A short time later I ran into that very same man again at a gym in Honolulu. He did not remember me, and asked me for some advice on posing! The moral to this story is that often, when you have a singleness of purpose and believe in yourself, few things will remain out of your reach. If I had listened to that doubting fellow that day, I would not be writing this article for Muscle Polynesia today, and you might not have ever heard of me and my story! The children are our future, and we must remember that our future is only as good as those we leave in charge of it. In our culture, |
|
| Family
is Foremost, and we must never forget to pass this important
value on to our children. It is this same message they will
carry on into the future. Aloha, Ronny Camacho |
